Introduction:

Planning a dream getaway to Thailand and missing out on a Full Moon party is a faux pas you’d rather avoid. However, what happens when you’re racing against the clock, have a series of places to go, and need to keep an eye on your party budget? Fret not, allow us to reveal the hidden gem of Phuket’s nightlife – the increasingly popular Full Moon Party.

Yes, you heard it right! Phuket is home to a stellar Full Moon Party that successfully captured the spirit of the original event, without the overwhelming chaos of its Koh Phangan sibling. It’s steadily becoming the favourite place of party enthusiasts and Full Moon Party first-timers alike.

What to expect at a Full Moon Party in Phuket?

Phuket’s Full Moon Party as a more refined version of the untamed revelry that unfolds in Koh Phangan. If the thought of navigating through massive crowds (imagine 30,000 revellers!) sends shivers down your spine, yet you crave the exhilarating vibes of a Full Moon Party, Phuket is your ideal destination.

The party offers all the thrills without burning a hole in your pocket. Expect a dazzling fireshow and spectacular fireworks, guaranteed to leave you in awe. The rhythmic beats compelling you to dance, the iconic neon body paint adding an extra touch of vibrance, and the classic bucket drinks, are all part of the package. All in all, Phuket offers an undeniably authentic Full Moon Party experience, minus the excesses.

The pulsating rhythm of the music will lure you onto the dance floor, whilst the quintessential buckets (Thai cocktails served in small buckets) add an extra layer of fun. Indeed, everything that makes a Full Moon Party what it is remains very much the same, minus the crowd.

Who organises the Full Moon Party in Phuket?

The captivating Full Moon Party in Phuket is expertly orchestrated by none other than the famous Illuzion Night Club, located on the buzzing Bangla Road. The crown jewel of this event, undeniably, is its stunning beach setting. Picture soft sand under your feet, moonlight bouncing off the serene waves, while you sway to the rhythm of the music.

What sets Phuket’s Full Moon Party apart is its exclusive nature. Unlike other similar events, it consciously caps the crowd to no more than 4,000, ensuring that each guest can fully immerse themselves in the experience without feeling overwhelmed.

Facilitating your night of fun, the organisers run frequent shuttles, ensuring seamless transit for all partygoers. Dance the night away to the pulsating beats spun by international DJ prodigies such as SZO, Alex Amaxx, and the phenomenal Steve Aoki, all amplified through top-tier sound systems.

In short, Phuket’s Full Moon Party delivers an intimate yet immersive experience, showcasing the finest music amidst the perfect beach setting.

Perks of attending a Full Moon Party in Phuket

One of the attractive perks of attending a Full Moon Party in Phuket is the stellar logistics provided by the organisers. You can fully immerse yourself in the party experience, without worrying about transportation, courtesy of the Free Shuttle Bus service.

These shuttle buses operate with clockwork precision, making round trips every 30 minutes from Patong to the idyllic Paradise Beach, and back. The service begins as early as 6:00 pm and runs well into the night, ensuring you never have to cut your fun short.

Where to hop on? It’s a breeze! The pick-up point is conveniently located at the Police Box in front of Bangla Road, just by the beachside. In essence, Phuket’s Full Moon Party offers you not just a night of electrifying music and dance, but also a hassle-free commute to make your party experience truly unforgettable.

How to get to Phuket for a full moon party?

By Airways: Regular flights conveniently connect Bangkok to Phuket, alongside direct flights from various global destinations like India, Australia, Malaysia, and Singapore. Notable airlines offering these routes include Thai Airways, Malaysia Airlines, Singapore Airlines, and Jet Airways for those travelling from India. Once you reach Phuket Airport, head straight towards your booked accommodation (possibly near Patong area.)

By Road: If a picturesque road trip across the beautiful terrains of Thailand is on your bucket list, you can easily access bus services from the BKS terminal, nestled just off Thanon Phang Na in Phuket Town. For those seeking to traverse the route between Bangkok and Phuket, choosing a bus from Bangkok’s Southern Bus terminal emerges as a sensible and dependable choice. The journey is approximately 13 hours long, and you can pick between air-conditioned and non-air-conditioned buses, all provided at a range of prices.

By Train: Although direct train services to Phuket aren’t available, you can take advantage of the Bangkok to Singapore railway route. You’ll need to alight at Phun Phin railway station, nestled in the Surat Thani province of Thailand. From Phun Phin, Phuket is a further 5-hour bus journey, marking the final leg of your adventure-filled travel to the vibrant island of Phuket.

What to wear for a Full Moon Party?

Dressing up for a Full Moon Party is all about balancing comfort with style. Here are some suggestions to help you nail your party attire:

Beachwear: As Full Moon Parties are primarily beach bashes, your attire should complement the sandy shores. Think lightweight and breezy clothing like shorts, skirts, sundresses, or comfy linen trousers.

Bright and Vibrant: Immerse yourself in the party’s exuberant spirit by donning brightly coloured outfits. Neon hues, psychedelic tie-dye patterns, and bold prints are all the rage at these parties.

If you are someone who appreciates and likes to explore the local heritage and architecture while on a holiday, you need to visit the Suwan Kiri Wong Temple in Patong. This temple is a majestic set of graceful buildings that are beautified with the skillfully done intricate artwork. The main temple is three stories high and has many lovely scenes depicted on stone pillars inside.

Chinpracha House

Yet another beautiful building on the island is the Chinpracha House and museum. It was originally built in 1904 and was left incomplete for 3 years henceforth. It is among the list of National Heritage Buildings and is the quintessential example of a Sino Portuguese mansion. It was originally built as a private house but is now a museum that showcases what the homes were like in the early 1900s. A small koi fish pond is in the inner courtyard and all the rooms of the building look onto the courtyard and atrium.

Things to do in Phuket in August

While Phuket has innumerous activities running all throughout the year, the monsoon season on the island allows you to enjoy the indoors as much as the serne outdoors. You can spend your time by relaxing on the beaches, shopping at malls or by trying out surfing at different beaches which becomes famous at this time of the year due to higher and stronger tides. While the activities and beaches that run year long are always available for you to try and experience, here are a few things you can do in Phuket in August on a rainy day.

Play at Game Space

Located on Bangla Road in Patong Beach, Game Space is the place to be on a rainy day! The place has a lot of games and virtual reality rides that you can enjoy for hours and hours together. It is very popular at night and kids will love it too! It is a fun place to spend your time on a rainy day.

Go Ice skating in Ice Arena

Ice Arena is an excellent place to spend a few hours and is located behind the Villa Market at the Boat Lagoon near Phuket Town. Ice Arena offers its visitors a bunch of classes and training to pick from, but usually people only like to spend a couple of hours here. One must remember to wear something warm inside the rink as it gets cold and the otherwise tropical weather of the island may fool you to think otherwise. You can enjoy ice skating at a price of 590 Baht per hour per person, including renting the skates. The practice penguin comes for an additional cost of 250 Baht per hour.

Location: Boat Lagoon Amphoe Muang Phuket, Phuket

Timings: 9 AM – 10 PM (Closed for cleaning from 12:00 Noon to 12:30 PM, 2:30 PM to 03:00 PM and 06:00 PM to 7:00 PM)

Surfing at West Coast of Phuket

The low season is the best time for surfers in Phuket. The strong south western winds result in stronger and higher waves that makes it a great time for surfing. Kata and Kalim beaches are considered to be one of the best in Phuket. At times, surfers are able to catch three meter long waves! The beach is enjoyable by both beginners as well as advanced surfers. Few other beaches like Kamala beach offer very gentle waves in the southern region that are very good for beginners while the central section is suitable for well-skilled surfers with high waves.

What to Pack and Carry

While there are plenty of things to do and places to visit in the monsoon season of the island, an unexpected downpour can mess with your plans. For the same reasons, we recommend you pack the following with you when in Phuket in the month of August.

Essentials

1. Umbrellas and raincoats may come in handy whenever you are out there, basking in the tropical frenzy of Phuket and will help you remain stress free in case of unexpected showers.

2. Carry an extra pair of clothes in case you do end up getting drenched in the rains

3. Sunblock is essential irrespective of weather and especially if you are planning to spend time on the beach.

4. In case you do plan to go to the Ice Arena carry something warm to avoid feeling cold.

5. Last but not the least, do not let the monsoon scare you! Pack your beachwear to enjoy the quintessential attractions in Phuket- its beaches!

How to Reach Phuket

Phuket is a very well-connected island with the rest of the world. The quickest means of commuting to the white pearl island is by taking a flight. While Phuket can be reached from other parts of Thailand by road, there are no direct trains that connect it to other cities yet.

By Air: Phuket International Airport connects both international and domestic flights from and to Phuket. Many countries like India, Germany, Australia, Singapore as well as Malaysia are directly connected to Phuket by air. Since this is not the peak season for Phuket, you can grab cheap deals for air tickets.

By Road: There are A/C and Non A/C buses that are easily available and one can avail a bus from Bangkok, Surat Thani, Krabi, Phang Na and other similar areas of Thailand. Thailand also has a well-linked road network for localites and travelers alike that makes intra-city travel convenient and pocket friendly.

The monsoon season in Phuket in August does not seem to deter any tourists visiting the area. The island has something for every kind of traveler - solo to thrill-seekers which makes Phuket truly paradisiacal. The pleasant weather, opportunity to engage in water sports, remarkable experiences, and some of the most breathtakingly beautiful attractions is what makes Phuket what it is. At this time of the year, the island is more peaceful and greener; the traffic on the roads is a lot smoother and overall everything is cheaper too giving tourists plenty of reasons to give it a try even during its low season!

Things to do in Phuket in November

Phuket offers a plethora of experiences that are perfect for all weather conditions. We have the top ones listed for you below.

Play around the water

When the monsoons start easing towards the end of the month and the waters are at their clear most with pleasant temperatures, engaging in various water sports can surely turn out to be refreshing under the bright sun. Phuket is an island nation that has plenty of thrilling sports to offer to tourists including surfing, scuba diving, kayaking, snorkeling, and much more. Keeping the adrenaline rush on toes, all these water sports that Phuket blankets are a must-try experience because of what the sea here has to offer.

Treat yourself with a spa

When on a vacation in a beach destination, leisure, relaxation, and rejuvenation is mostly the idea behind it. Now, when it’s pouring down heavily on the outside, why not pamper yourself with a spa treatment. The aromatic oils, soothing music, sounds of raindrops, and the calm atmosphere of the spa is enough to make one get de-stressed and relieved of their tensions. From an extensive variety of Thai massages to your favorite fragrant oils, the spas in Phuket offer a treatment to cherish.

Take a rum tour

We have always heard of taking a wine tour, but when in Phuket, it is never going to be your basic sightseeing. Home to an eco-minded, quaint distillery named Chalong Bay Rum, Phuket gives one a chance to tour, taste, and understand the processes of rum making. This award-winning distillery was started by a young French couple and offers the best spirits one has ever taken a sip of in their lives. The rum is produced using local, hand-harvested sugarcane in an open and spacious bar which makes the entire experience truly remarkable.

Visit the weekend market

When the sun’s out, head to the market in Phuket that is set up just on the weekends and that’s the beauty of it. This food market is the one when you can witness the most vibrant and lively side of Phuket. Naka Weekend Market is the largest of its kind and serves some of the most scrumptious and drool-worthy delicacies from the local cuisine. The street hawkers here are known for serving the authentic tastes of various dishes including freshly grilled seafood and stir-fries to spring rolls and deep-fried locusts.

Festivals in Phuket in November

Loi Krathong Festival

Known as the Light Festival of Thailand, Loi Krathong is one of the most celebrated festivals of this nation. When planning to visit Phuket in November, make sure that you do plan it around the festival if you have a zeal to be a part of one of the biggest festivities of this town. It is an ancient festival that is celebrated on a full moon night that also indicates the end of the monsoon season.

Thousands of lanterns are donated by the Thai families to the temples as their homage to the Thai trinity of gods including the Phra Phrom or Brahma, the Phra Narai or Vishnu, and the Phra Isuan or Shiva. You can observe an extensive number of baskets with flowers and candles floating on a river, the sky filled with yellow-colored lanterns, and the traditional Thai dance being performed on various nooks. This is truly an extravagant festival that is celebrated with vigorous enthusiasm each year.

What to Pack and Carry

Since November is a month where weather and temperatures are uncertain, here are a few things that you should have on them when planning to travel to Phuket.

Essentials

1. Since it can rain at any point in time it is always better to carry rainfall essentials that include an umbrella, rain cover, and waterproof bags in order to avoid spoiling your expensive things.

2. Pack a bug spray as Phuket is a tropical nation that is home to some different variety of insects altogether.

3. Make sure you carry a water bottle with you everywhere you go to avoid wasting money on water.

4. Do not forget to carry your sunblock!

Clothing and Accessories

1. Since the chances of the sun coming out in November are pretty high, and also depending upon the time you plan a visit, pack your bathing suits for beaches and water sports.

2. Do not forget to pack a light jacket as the winds can get a little chilly during the rainy days.

Phuket in November is truly magical. Rain lover or summer lover, this is the time when this does not really hold significance. There are so many things to do and equally many places to pay a visit to Phuket during this month that one never tends to get bored here. From vibrant nightlife to surreal nature escapes, this island nation has it all!

Home to over thirty amazing beaches, Phuket becomes extremely busy during the peak tourist months between December and February.

While the peak tourist months have earned that title for a reason, there are other months that are just as good to visit Phuket. The best part is, during these “shoulder season” months, one can experience the best of what Phuket has to offer, without breaking the bank by paying for peak season flight and accommodation prices. In this article, we will be discussing the shoulder month of October. Without more delay, let’s jump right into it.

Weather in Phuket in October

October sits near the end of the rainy season in Phuket. This means, while there are a few showers scattered across the days of the month, there are a lot of dry days that present the perfect opportunity for exploration.

The days remain moderately hot with temperatures ranging between 30 and 34-degree celsius.

Rainfall, as mentioned earlier, is still prevalent, with average rainfall hitting 280mm, which is much lower than the peak monsoon month of September. On an average, 23 days of the month receive rainfall. This means, October offers seven completely rain-free days, along with a number of moderately hot days that get moderately intense showers spread throughout the day.

Thanks to this combination of rainfall and high temperatures, October is one of the most humid months in Phuket, with humidity averaging around 82%.

Thankfully, the ocean (sea) temperatures average around 29-degree celsius, making the ocean an ideal escape from the humid and hot days.

Places to visit in Phuket in October

Since there is still a bit of rainfall prevalent during October, you will have limited freedom to enjoy outdoor activities during your visit. With that said, with some strategic planning, you can experience the best of outdoor and indoor Phuket. Here are some of the places you must have on your itinerary:

Thalang District

Known for its expansive beaches and brightly painted temples, the Thalang District is the perfect place to explore when it is pouring down in Phuket. Pay a visit to the iconic Wat Sri Sunthon temple or the Peranakan Phuket museum to find out what makes the Thalang District so special. If temples or museums don’t excite you, one of the night markets in the district sure would!

If you are lucky enough to run into a sunny day during your visit, consider going for a bike ride through the countryside of Phuket, and explore the sceneries that are often left out of Instagram posts.

Sirinat National Park

Located within the Thalang District, the Sirinath National Park is located on the northern end of the Phuket Island. From exotic birds like the kingfisher, to one of the most varied collection of turtle species, including nesting turtles, leatherback turtles, and hawksbills, the Sirinat National Park is an absolute delight for the wildlife enthusiasts.

Pa Tong

No trip to Phuket is complete without a visit to the Pa Tong beach resort area. Known for its expansive sandy beaches, surreal beaches, thriving beachside bars, and uber-luxurious resort properties, Pa Tong is no less than paradise on Earth. On a bright sunny day, you can enjoy a variety of watersports and shop for handicrafts at beachside vendors. On not-so-sunny days, you can shop till you drop at the Patong OTOP Shopping complex or the JungCeylon Mall. Finally, if none of those things entice you, simply head out to the neon-light-clad Bangla Road which is dotted with nightclubs, massage parlors, go-go bars, and beer bars.

Muang

Populated with some of the finest water parks on the planet, Muang district in Phuket looks like its come right out of a dream of a child. With that said, the rides in these waterparks are no child’s play. The infamous Splash Jungle Water Park is perhaps the most iconic waterpark in the area. However, there is another great contender, the Rawai Kid’s Park which boasts to be the largest kid’s waterpark in the World.

The Kata beach in Muang is also home to some fantastic resorts that house a number of water slides within their premises. However, if the weather isn’t favorable, and you still want to have some fun in the water, you can head to the Surf House Phuket. Known for providing indoor surfing experience, surf house Phuket is the perfect place to brush up on basics of surfing while you wait for the weather to clear up.

Things to do in Phuket in October

Just like with places to visit, one will have to be a little strategic with the activities they choose to do during their October visit to Phuket. Here are some of our top recommendations:

Go for a helicopter tour

With 82% average humidity, engaging in most outdoor activities can turn out to be a challenge. However, a helicopter tour is a definite exception. The activity will allow you to cross a helicopter ride off your bucket list, help you get a bird’s eye view of the island, and get you acquainted with what are arguably some of the best views across the island of Phuket.

Keep in mind, like all other outdoor activities, helicopter rides are at the mercy of the weather. For this reason, it is best to check the weather forecast before making any commitments or bookings.

Undertake a bar crawl at the Bangla Road

As mentioned earlier, the Bangla Road in Phuket is notoriously famous for its nightlife scene, and for good reason. With a mind-numbing variety of bars, pubs, go-go bars, and massage spas to choose from, you will definitely find yourself spoilt for choice.

The best part is, this activity can be done in all sorts of weather conditions and is perfect to satisfy the hedonist inside you.

Take a dip in a natural pool

One of the most famous waterfalls in Phuket, the Bang Pae offers a dream-like setting with its surreal drop, wild jungle surroundings, and a natural pool formed in the middle of all of it. The natural pool attracts a ton of visitors and October presents a great opportunity to enjoy the tranquility and serenity of the waterfall, without having to struggle with the swarms of crowds present there during peak season.

Near the parking of the waterfall area, there are a number of bars offering a heady combination of quality liquor, lip-smacking food, and the company of interesting and curious locals.

There is also a Gibbon Rehabilitation Centre nearby, however, getting access to this place may not always be possible.

What to Pack and Carry

As the October weather switches between extremely humid days, spells of heavy rainfalls, and a few hours of sunshine every day, packing for a visit during this time can turn out to be tricky. Don’t worry, here is the list of essentials you must have in your bag if you are visiting Phuket in October:

Essentials

1. An umbrella. While it is also advisable to wear a raincoat, doing so can turn out to be a struggle during high humidity days. On such days, an umbrella will be your best friend and will protect you from the harsh sunlight, along with the rain.

2. Pack plenty of sunscreen, preferably, SPF 24 and above. Even in October, the days can turn out to be pretty warm and the glaring sun makes carrying skin protection mandatory.

3. If you plan on undertaking a lot of outdoor activities, it is also advisable to carry mosquito and bug repellant at all times. Like most other tropical destinations, Thailand is home to a number of insects and bugs, and carrying protection is a smart idea.

Clothing and Accessories

1. Carry comfortable footwear that you can wear for a long time. At the same time, don’t forget to carry hiking boots for those jungle hikes to hidden waterfalls.

2. Sunlight protection gear, like full-sleeved clothing, sunglasses, and caps and hats.

3. Swimwear! No visit to Phuket is complete without spending some time at the beach, and you will need some good-looking swimwear for those Instagram photos!

October is the ideal month to visit Phuket if you are a budget traveller. With thin crowds of tourists, dirt cheap flight tickets, and pocket-friendly hotel prices, a visit in October is worth braving some rain and humidity.

When September brings in the heavy monsoon, the various indoor activities start getting to be noticed and one realizes how interesting the island nation truly is. Here are some amazing experiences that are just waiting to be unraveled.

Take a Thai cooking class

Thailand is known for offering some of the most delectable and mouth-watering cuisines in the world. What is better than taking some skill and some centuries-old recipes to bring the Thai flavors back in the homeland for your friends and families. The Thai flavors are a perfect blend of salty, sour, and spicy which offers nothing less than a carnival on the tongue. The cooking classes in Phuket not only include witnessing the chef perform but also have your involvement in a market tour to buy fresh produce and then cooking your own meals. The best part about this is trying the Thai food that you made on your own!

Attend a Cabaret Show

Phuket is known for its dazzling and glittering nightlife and the cabaret show describes this the best. The most famous one takes place in Patong and is named Simon Cabaret. Another one of the popular shows that many like to witness, both locals and tourists, is Samkong. The shows are always fun and the bright costumes of performers make the entire stage look colorful which is a treat for the eyes. This show surely makes one forget about the rain pouring down outside.

Pamper yourself with a spa treatment

Getting a Thai massage when in Phuket is a must, without any shadow of a doubt.
Festivals in Phuket in September

Por Tor Festival

Also named as the Hungry Ghost Festival in many parts of the town, Por Tor Festival is one of the most significant festivities for the ethnic Chinese residing in this destination. The festival takes place on the very first day of the waxing moon in the 7th month of the Chinese Calendar which is either late August or early September.

Hundreds and hundreds of specially made food, candles, and fragrant flowers are offered on altars to the ancestors of the Chinese ethnic groups. This colorful and vibrant festival can either be enjoyed in the Seng Tek Bel Shrine which is located on the Phuket Road or the Ranong Road. The must-attend celebrations of this festival surely include the lion dance, live concerts, merit-making ceremony, and the vibrant shows.

What to Pack and Carry

Since the weather in September can get a little over the head, we have compiled a list of a few essential items that one should pack when planning an excursion to Phuket during the monsoon season.

Essentials

1. An umbrella, a raincoat, and a waterproof bag are a must keep if you don’t want your clothes or your belongings to get spoiled in the rain.

2. Lots and lots of insect and mosquito repellents. Now, since its rainy season on a tropical island, it is only obvious that the number of bugs will also be a little on the high side.

Clothing and Accessories

1. Since the weather is going to the coldest and wettest, pack along a light jacket and a pullover to stay comfortable at all times.

2. It is better to keep comfortable footwear that will only make walking around the town easier.

Phuket in September is truly magical even with the monsoon hitting the floors at its best. The fresh air, chilly winds, cloudy skies, and the lesser crowds are a few things that only add to an already impeccable experience. This island ensures that no gets bored or unimpressed when paying a visit, hence offers an array of indoor activities for people of all age groups to indulge in, making the vacation truly remarkable.

The fine white sands, nodding palms on the beachside, shining blue seas and lively towns full of the history of early life in Phuket make the city a lovable holiday destination. The climate here is tropical and the hottest season is generally from March to early May. Phuket experiences a low tourist season in the month of June yet it is a paradise for those who visit as it allows them to explore the beautiful island at a cheaper rate. The culture here is a great mix of Thais, ethnic Malays, Thai-Chinese, and even sea gypsies. The island is home to many sea-facing and seaside resorts, spas, homestays, cafes and offers its travelers a wide choice of dining and partying options to choose from. Phuket caters to all types of travelers - be it families, individuals, couples or groups, across all budgets making it a true paradisiacal experience on earth.

Weather in Phuket in June

The weather in Phuket in June is surprisingly very good, despite it being a low season for travelers. It is the monsoon season on the island but lots of tourists visit this destination to enjoy the nightlife, strong waves that make it a good time for surfing and the festivals.

The average rainfall is about 233.4mm dropped over in 16 to 19 days, falling mostly in the evenings and towards the end of the month.

The rains are brought by the strong winds of the west, which is also why the sea conditions are rougher. This results in great surfing conditions but swimmers, snorkelers and divers may face poor visibility and unpredictable high and rip tides. Average temperatures of 28.3°C (82.9°F) will feel much hotter and stickier with the 73% humidity.
Even though Phuket season is wet in June, it is rarely ever cold due to its proximity to the equator.

The average temperature of the month is 29 degrees celsius that falls between the average high and low of 25 degrees Celsius and 32 degrees celsius. You may feel much hotter and stickier because of the humidity which is 85% on average.

Despite the rains falling mostly at night, the island experiences the least number of sunshine hours because of how cloudy it can be throughout the day. These weather conditions make Phuket a lovely place to travel despite being a low tourist season month of June.

By Road: There are A/C and Non-A/C buses that are easily available and one can avail of a bus from Bangkok, Surat Thani, Krabi, Phang Na and other similar areas of Thailand. Thailand also has a well-linked road network for localities and travelers alike that makes intra-city travel convenient and pocket-friendly.

Phuket in June is a beautiful amalgamation of a sunny-swampy version of heaven on earth. The pleasant weather, opportunity to engage in water sports, drool-worthy cuisine, remarkable experiences, and some of the most breathtakingly beautiful attractions is what makes Phuket what it is.
